Archery/Knife & Hawk Throwing Event at R.I.B.

RACINE INSTICTIVE BOWMEN'S 50th ANNIVERSARY
(aka R.I.B.)

RIB is a private archery club that is set on 200 acres of forest and fields in Racine, WI. Every year they have an "anniversay shoot" where the club is open to the public and they have camping, food, beer, soda, music, and all sorts of archery ranges to shoot on.

For the past couple years a friend of mine has been talking to the archery club and trying to get them to bring in some other activities for the event... like knife throwing!

So we pitched our idea to the board of directors and they all decided to go ahead with it!

ARCHERY RANGES
They have 4 ranges of nothing but full sized, 3-D targets, and there are 14 targets on each range. The 3-D targets ranged from raccoons to buffalo, and everything in between!

They even had exotic animal targets like huge gorillas, tigers and even leopards, (but these were for a different event).

The locations that you had to shoot from made it much more realistic. Thru trees and brush, up and down hills etc... it was an "archers dream" :)

They have a pavillion that is about 2 stories tall and you could shoot from the top platform at targets down below you.

They also had a 3-D deer target that slides down a cable that you shoot at from the platform. Very fun to watch!!!

They even have an indoor range with about 20 lanes to shoot on if the weather isn't cooperating. Must be nice :)

ELEPHANT TARGET
I didn't have a chance to walk any of the ranges to take pics but I did get one of the "Elephant Target". The Elephant Target is a full sized elephant that you shoot at from 110 yrds away!

If you hit the elephant in the "kill zone" you get your name entered in a door prize drawing. 3 shots for $1.

WILLIAM TELL SHOOT
They also had a target where you got 3 tries at shooting an apple off of a mannequins head for $1. If you hit the apple you get entered in another drawing!

KNIFE/AXE THROWING BOOTH
I taught atleast 75 people how to throw over the weekend. And anyone that hit a bullseye won a free soda or tap beer.

Last year I met one of the guys on the Board of Directors (Mike Dailey) and he was totally into it! He had already been throwing tomahawks for years. This year I met another guy who really got hooked on the "THUNK"! His name is Ben and he is an iron worker. He even brought out a couple spud wrenches and we threw those for a while. I got lucky and nailed a bullseye on my second try from about 18'. (1 1/2 spins). It was so cool!!! :)

I met lots of great people at the event and I even have a couple new friends to throw with. I couldn't have asked for it to go any better!

Here are a few pics from the event:

Here is my good friend Scott Bryan, (the guy with 2 first names :) He almost nailed a bull on the swinging target with his Firestone ThrowingAxe. Throwing is always better when done with friends!

Here is Mike Dailey throwing his Dragon Knives that he picked up last year. He has improved a ton since I threw with him last year! When I first met him he was "King of the Hawks"... now his title might be changing. (But not without some competition :)

Here is Ben "The IronWorker". I wanted to get some pics of him throwing his spud wrenches but I ran out of room on my digital camera. But I'll get some soon when he comes for the next throwing event here in WI.

And finally here is me (on the left) talking "smack" to Mike Dailey as he was throwing :) I think we were in a competition throwing at bullseyes and I was just using the power of laughter to my advantage. Yeah, I know... cheap but effective! :)

They told me around 800 people showed up throughout the weekend even though it rained a bit on Saturday. I'm betting even more show up next year.

Thanks again to everyone that took part in the event. It wouldn't have gone off so smoothly without all your help. So thanks a bunch!!!
