PKT 2002 Event

Pictures are shown below!!!

WWAC/PACIFIC KNIFE THROWERS 2002 CHAMPIONSHIPS!
There were throwers from Germany, Japan, England and the US. We started with 16 throwers and cut to 8 after the first 20 knives were thrown at 12'.

The throwers in the "final 8" were:

Carl Geddes, Lee Fugatt, Rick Lemberg, Bob Greenlee, John Bailey, Joe McCullough, Derek Johnston and Matthew Bovier.

Joe, Bob and Matthew were first time tournament throwers. Matthew was in 3rd place after all the 12' knives were thrown. (He's going to be a great competitor.)

The tournament scores consisted of 40 knives at 12', 40 knives at 18' and 40 tomahawks at 14'. The total is the aggregate total of ALL THREE DISTANCES. (I have also included the breakdown of each of the distances)

1st Place - Carl Geddes - 223pts.
76pts@12', 60pts@18', 87pts@tomahawk

2nd Place - Lee Fugatt - 200pts.
74@12', 47@18', 79@tomahawk

3rd Place - Rick Lemberg - 185pts.
65@12', 54@18', 66@tomahawk

PKT 2002 SPEED CHAMPIONSHIPS
Most sticks in 20 seconds (still in the target).
I did not enter this event. I believe it causes you to develop bad form :-)

1st Place - Lee Fugatt - 19 knives
2nd Place - Matthew Bovier - 16 knives
3rd Place - John Bailey - 13 knives

PKT 2002 LONG DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The distance event consisted of throwing 5 knives until you got a stick at whatever distance you chose. If someone beat you, that was the new distance. If you didn't stick any knife in 5 throws you were out of the competition.

You only needed to throw as far as the others to beat the competition, NOT as far as YOU could throw from.

1st Place - Carl Geddes - 34' 9 1/2"
2nd Place - John Bailey - 31' 6"
3rd Place - Matthew Bovier - 29' 1/2"

(Note how many times Matthew Bovier has showed up in the standing. Remember, he's a new thrower!)

PKT 2002 OBSTACLE COURSE CHAMPIONSHIP
We also had a great obstacle course which came from the devious mind of Lee Fugatt. The course consisted of breaking three balloons, little balloons I might add, then you had to throw your knife through a ring that was placed in front of the target and get a stick. If you hit the ring your knife wouldn't stick in the target.

Target 3 was a 2X4 that was hanging from a rope SIDEWAYS that you had to stick 2 knives into and finally on to target number 4 where you had to throw your knife through a 2 1/2" hole and ring a bell.

In addition, for each missed knife you were penalized 5 seconds. The throwing distance was 12' throughout the obstacle course. You can see Lee has a very fertile mind for thinking up this stuff!

1st Place - Rick Lemberg - 3 minutes, 13 seconds
2nd Place - Carl Geddes - 3 minutes, 33 seconds
3rd Place - John Bailey and Lee Fugatt (TIED!) - 5 minutes, 27 seconds. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

TOMAHAWK CHAMPIONSHIPS!
We also had a separate tomahawk event put on by Thommi Hawk of New Jersey. He is a very nice guy who donates his time and money to this event. The event consisted of 5 throws from 14' at an "X" for ten points, an inner ring that was 7 points, and an outer ring worth 3 points.

Rick Lemberg took the event with 3 X's and 2 seven's in his first round. There was a four way tie and throw-off for second place which lasted for 5 rounds before Lee Fugatt finally broke the tie with 5 perfect throws!

The throw-offs were really fun and exciting!

1st Place - Rick Lemberg
2nd Place - Lee Fugatt
3rd Place - Derek Johnston

All in all it was a great, well run tournament. Everyone had a great time. We met lots of old friends and made lots of new friends. I would encourage all throwers, both new and experienced, to come to a tournament and participate.

You don't need to be great and you may be better than you think you are. See what knife throwing is REALLY all about!

PKT 2002 Event

The Pacific Knife Throwers has been invited back to run the Knife Throwing Events at the Wild Western Arts Club International Convention and World Championships of the Western Arts on March 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th, 2002!!

This event will be held in Las Vegas, NV at the Tropicana Hotel. (The WWAC encourages western dress as they work to preserve the western arena arts.)

The events are widespread in a HUGE, 50,000 square foot convention facility. You can also take lessons in knife and tomahawk throwing from acknowledged masters of the arts while you're there.

(NONE OF THE FOLLOWING 'CONTEST EVENTS' COULD BE VERIFIED FOR THIS YEAR. THESE ARE JUST THE SAME ONES THEY HAD LAST YEAR.)

CONTEST EVENTS
We will have several contest events (no additional charge for entry) including:

- 12 ft single turn
- 18 ft 2 turn (AKTA rules)
- Speed Contest (Most sticks in a 16" target in 20 seconds
- Distance Contest
- 2 or 3 short-form contests

And MORE!

NEW CONTEST
There has been a suggestion for a new contest that we are interested in trying:

A Throwers Range event with teams of 2 throwers competing to complete their throws into several difficult targets in a race for time!

The contest will involve throwing into playing cards, wooden posts and other small targets. This contest is for the most experienced thrower teams.

The Las Vegas event draws hundreds of arena arts masters from all over the world and we are pleased to be a part of it. This is their 12th annual event.

There will be thousands of dollars in prizes and what promises to be the largest knife tournament of all time!

Hope to see you there!
