FIRST ANNUAL MOOSE TRAX FORGE OPEN THROWING EVENT by Jack Harrill I have talked to a lot of folks up here and they seem really excited about this event. I have very good help lined up at this point to support the event and provide good officiating. I have deliberately created some variety in what we are throwing and the targets as well. I believe that a high quality "line thrower" (someone who practices from competition distances) may have a great chance but we are doing a couple of "woods walk" type events which should help level the field so even the beginners will have a chance. The contest will take place on Saturday July 20, 2002, in Brighton, Maine, at the "Old Boar's Keep" (Terry and Jerry Barlow's) on Route 151 - 7 miles North of Athens, Maine. REGISTRATION FEES: $15 if registered by July 1, 2002 $20 after July 1st and at the gate PRIZES: 1st Prize - $50 and a custom knife 2nd Prize - $20 and a tomahawk 3rd Prize - $10 and a throwing knife Prizes will be awarded based on the highest aggregate score. In the event of a tie(s) there will be a tie-breaker. The high score in each event will be recognized at the presentation of awards. (Pre-registration is strongly encouraged!) A complete copy of the rules will be sent to all preregistered competitors. SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY: 7AM - 8:30AM - Registration at the site. 8:30AM - 9:00AM - Welcome, Introduction and Rules Review. 9:00AM - ? - Finish Competition. EVENTS: *Knife Range - 5 targets, 2 distances. One throw at each target from each distance. *Tomahawk Range - Same as Knife *No knife/hawk range - 3 targets, 2 distances. (This is a course that is just a little off the regular program.) TARGET 1 - The handle of your thrower must be over 6 feet. A six foot handle could be a javelin or a spear or ANYTHING else that has a six foot handle. TARGET 2 - The handle of your thrower must be less than 6 feet. This thrower could be an axe or something else that has a handle less than six feet long that is not a hawk or a knife. TARGET 3 - There is no handle allowed on projectile. For this event the thrower could be a shuriken or a spike, heck it could be a tiller tine if you can stick it! (Throwing devices will be provided if you do not have your own.) *Metallic Silhouette - 3 Targets, 2 Distances. This is a "Hammers Only" event: Small, Medium and Olympic size hammers will be thrown. *Woods walk - Ten stations designed by "Captain Insane-O" himself. Designed to reduce your overall score. The suggested list of items to bring includes: Excedrin, kitchen sink or extra water for Excedrin, bola, armload of firewood, good rock, sling, and as many other throwable, "stickable" items you care to carry :) For questions, comments or any other information on this event please contact: Jack Harrill moosetrax@midmaine.com It's free, and there's no obligation. |
