Open Throw On July 17, 2004 some of the best throwers around will be in Brighton, Maine for one of the wildest events going these days! There will be prizes and lots of great throwers. I am always dubious about the throwing but the folks are just great! The event is located in the mountains of Maine. The site is absolutely fantastic. This will be the second Open Throw. The first event was won by Joe Darrah and his bevy of bayonets. For this event you will need the following items. Sense of adventure, sense of humor, sense. It would be helpful if you bring anything that you own that can be thrown and stuck in a target. You never know, you might just need that 36" circular saw blade that you have had kicking around in the garage. There are extra points for throwing something like that (if it sticks and you hit the target that is 40 yards away). Other than that, it might be really tiring to carry it with you. The day will consist of the following events: 1. RANGE THROW 1/2, 1, 1 1/2 and 2 spins from behind a specified line. The distances will be the normal 8, 12, 15 and 18 feet. 2. WOODS WALK This will be a series of stations that will present unusual and not often found opportunities for throwing knives and hawks at a diverse group of targets. This event is alot crazier than it sounds! 3. COMBAT COURSE This course will allow you the opportunity to escape from the evil clutches of DULL. (Doubly useless low lifes). Failing to complete a station will cost you as you attempt to escape from the DULL prison compound. 4. THE ANYTHING GOES DOWN RANGE EVENT This will be conducted on the range (sort of) and have some interesting items to toss. All of the throwing tools for this event will be provided. Basically, you throw what comes out of the box. I put the stuff in the box. It is my hope that this will provide a fun and challenging event for everyone that participates. It will certainly provide entertainment for anyone watching. PRIZES There will be a first, second and third prize for the 3 highest overall scores. (Adding up all the events.) The prizes will be custom throwing tools. Although the target faces are not final yet, there will be an accuracy component to the target. The entry fee for the day is $20. I would strongly encourage pre registration in order to reduce the admin time at the event. There will be a limited amount of camping available at the site. I should emphasize that this is primitive camping as there is no running water or power on the site of the Open Throw. There is a latrine facility available at the site. There is also no charge to stay at Ft. Barlow (the site of the Open Throw). Anyone that needs driving directions, please contact me and I will send them to you. Anyone that needs any additional assistance with their lodging or travel plans, please contact me and I'll help you solve the problem. As far as registration goes, I would strongly encourage everyone that knows that they are coming to preregister. The registration fee for the event is $20. This helps a great deal to reduce the admin time that is needed before the event starts. It also helps to get a head count. This makes the operation of the event much simpler. It allows us to make sure that we have enough support staff to ensure that the event goes smoothly.
