1. WHAT'S NEW

Hi Throwers,

I haven't been able to throw at all lately due to the freezing temps. The past week or two have been extremely cold and the last few mornings have started out with temps below zero! Just a tad bit cold to be outside throwing. But the days are already getting longer so soon I'll be sweating in the backyard and wondering when Fall will arrive for the cooler days of throwing :-)

SITE UPDATES

BUNGEE THROWER FOR SPEARS
A while back I received some cool pictures from Mike Gerety from the Northeastern United States! Mike made some homemade spears and then a "Bungee Cord Launcher" to give you more leverage so you can hurl the spears much further than if you were just throwing them using your arm.

To check out the pictures just go to the THROWERS page and click on SPEARS:

2. GUEST COLUMN:

AN INVITATION TO ALL THROWERS - LOOKING FOR VIDEO FOOTAGE - by David R. Adamovich (aka "The Great Throwdini")

I am currently compiling video footage of contemporary throwers for possible inclusion in a teaching video of throwing techniques.

I'm looking for video footage with different throwing styles or any unusual throws worth documenting. I'm putting together a video highlighting different styles (thumb on top, thumb on side, lead foot forward, lead foot backward, "hard" throwing, underhand, overhand, etc). The purpose is NOT to prove that any style is better than any other. The purpose is to COLLATE and DOCUMENT the state of the art of knife throwing as it exists today.

Where possible and depending on the quality of the footage I will show it in normal motion and slow motion. Close-up, distance and quality footage are essential. Try to video the throw from several angles; i.e., front, side and back for concise documentation and analysis.

Burl Carl's UNDERHAND throw, Bob Karp's PALM throw, Tim Valentine's POWER throw are just a few that come to mind. Heck you know who you are. Put out the word and let's get this project on the road.

If you are interested in being part of this video please email me directly at throwdini@knifethrower.com expressing your interest and I will reply directly to you. I will also need a release giving me permission to use the footage, your image and name.

Scott,

"I started throwing knives competively around 1997 against some of the best tournament throwers in the world (including 'The Rev' himself)."

"I felt I had hit a plateau in the sport, but after watching David's tape I found a few tips that helped me break through that level."

"His instructions will help beginners learn faster than any book will. Veteran throwers can utilize his slow motion video clips to hone their skills to a higher degree."

"This is one tape you must have if you are serious about knife, tomahawk, or axe throwing."

Burl Carl
Reno, NV

4. A SIMPLE TARGET
by Ed Imperatore

Find an old picnic table about to be tossed out. (In the Spring they're easy to find on dump day). Stand it up on edge and lay 4 or 5 pieces of 2" X 12" Hem/Fir or Pine boards down. Screw them on from the back to help hide the metal screws. Its also a good idea to brace the back of the board with other pieces of wood like 2"X 4"s. Add some spray paint circles and it's pretty fancy!

To prop it up from leaning to far over stick some cement blocks or old wood under the legs in back and brace with clothesline or other rope from top to ground with nails and spikes. This makes it very sturdy.
