1. WHAT'S NEW

Well Hel-low Throwers! :-)

Back by popular demand... a second article in each issue! From now on, if we have extra info to share we'll throw in a 2nd article in each newsletter. (The main reason this is happening is because our new sponsor is eating up some of the cost of sending out each issue, so be sure to check them out!)

I've had a few people send me some great ideas for information that would be fun to read. Chuck Fogarty from Countryside, IL had a fantastic one about getting people to send in short biographies about themselves and/or their "throwing" and then we can feature someone in each issue. Man he's "sharp"! :-)

Knife makers, knife throwers, knife bouncers... anyone at all is eligible. So if you have tips to share, or want to explain how you became addicted to throwing, we'd love to hear from you! Please send an email to me and if possible include a picture of you, your range, your favorite throwers or whatever!

You could be sharing your tips or story with like minded people all over the world! Over 12,000 of them! Just send your info to: sgracia@wi.rr.com

Thanks to everyone for making this a great place for free information! Now don't be shy... start typing and tell us a little about yourselves!!!

2. GUEST COLUMN:

KNIFE THROWING THERAPY
by Jim Tengler

Hello, just thought I'd share a little something about what I call "KTT" or "Knife Throwing Therapy". To fill you in quickly, I have been throwing knives off and on for most of my life. I'm 41 now. No competition or anything, just having fun.

About four and a half years ago I was in a bad motorcycle accident, broke a lot of bones and had eight surgeries to try to repair some of it. To make a long story short, I ended up with severe chronic pain in a few areas.

One of the methods of trying to fight chronic pain is meditation and one form of this meditation is called distractive meditation. What that means is finding something that you have to concentrate on and focus to help distract your mind from focusing on the pain. In the process of finding something I could focus on and stay with for that I decided to use knife throwing, since its something I love and you need to focus on.

So I set up a target in the back yard and I've been throwing everyday for months now. It turns out to be fantastic therapy for the pain and a great way to relieve stress and a focused way to relieve anger and frustration.

Plus my nine-year-old daughter who always wants to do stuff with Dad has picked up the sport and loves it. And to be fair, when she really focuses she can sometimes throw better than me. Kinda embarrasses me sometimes but she's a natural.

Well that's about all. Just thought I'd pass on that knife throwing could even have some medical benefits to it.

Happy throwing and stay safe.

4. TIPS FOR STAYING WARM
by Scott Gracia

The cold weather season is here. And if you're as lucky as us throwers in the Midwest, your targets are frozen in snow and the temps are down in the 20's! But, if you're like me and don't plan to stop throwing outside then here are a few tips to keep your hands from freezing:

1) It is possible to throw with gloves on, but you may have to make some adjustments. Thin gloves will probably work best.

2) I'm not too sure about this one but I've heard it works... Put your knives in the oven before throwing. (*You don't want to "cook" them, just warm them up a bit.) It will be very comfortable then... at least for the first ten minutes. Then wear the gloves.

*Bake the knives on a "VERY LOW" or "WARM" temperature setting for only a minute or two and check them. BE CAREFUL! KNIVES MAY BE HOT!!!

3) Throw more tomahawks than knives when its cold outside. The wooden handles on the hawks don't get nearly as cold as the steel handles on your knives do. So this gives your hands a break from holding cold steel and they might even warm up a bit.

Hope these tips keep you on the range a bit longer when the weather isn't cooperating. Keep your knives in the target, and outta the snow! They stay warmer that way :-)
