I got to throw knives in just a t-shirt and long sleeve "flannel" which is great seeing how it was snowing and only 30 degrees a few days ago! But one thing I've learned from living here is that the weather never stays the same for too long :-) LATEST WKTG CONTEST WINNER So you wanna know who won the "Mini Bokri" throwing knife and the new Beil-Ax designed by John Bailey huh? Well the winner, and pictures of the Mini Bokri and Beil-Axe can be found here: http://www.throwzini.com/wktg_contest5.html AOL USERS LINK Congratulations to the winner!!! Sorry, but you'll have to visit the site to find out if it was you or not :-) UPDATED FUNDAMENTALS VIDEO! Don't you hate it when you buy one of your favorite movies and a few months later the movie company releases a newer version with "Bonus Features" or "Deleted Scenes" that you're just dying to see? Well, sorry to say, today I have to play that part and tell you about some new footage on David Adamovich's instructional video, "The Fundamentals of Knife, Hawk and Axe Throwing With an Introduction to the Impalement Arts". (Whew!) Dr. Adamovich (aka The Great ThrowDini) added some actual footage from his impalement act called "Maximum Risk" that he performs in NYC. You'll see over 18 stunts in this section from outlining his assistant with knives, hawks and machetes, to standing in front of the target board and catching knives right out of the air! The "Double Ladder of Death" is performed and Throwdini even cuts a straw from his assistants mouth with a knife!!! Its great to see the kinds of things a person can accomplish when they put their mind to it. I met David at my first IKTA tournament in 2001, before he even thought of turning towards the "Impalement Arts". And now he has a live stage show in New York and has been featured on quite a few television spots as well! It really is amazing to see how far he has taken this in such a short time. So anyway, if you're looking for a great instructional video, take a look at the "Fundamentals of Knife, Hawk and axe Throwing With an Introduction to the Impalement Arts". You'll learn EVERYTHING you need to know to get started throwing for fun or for upcoming competitions. And you'll also see some fantastic (unedited) stunt throws from David's personal collection. For a full description of this video just go to this page: http://www.throwzini.com/tgt_video.html AOL USERS LINK That's all for this "episode"! Have a great two weeks and we'll talk again soon... GUEST COLUMN: KEEP TRYING TIL YOU FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU by Phillipe Catania I think I was born to "TK" (Throw Knives) like many of us watching movies and being impressed by the person throwing. When I was young from time to time I tried to stick my poor small pocket knife, but nothing serious. Last year I stepped up and bought 2 lonely, dusty throwing knives in one of the two gunsmith shops where I live in France. The two "lonely/dusty knives" were expensive but I was happy buying my first real throwing knives. I spent a few months throwing them. At this time I did not know that other kinds of throwing knives existed. Other forms, other lengths, weights and so on. And I was rather happy to throw them. But I was not aware that they were too small (7-8 inches) and too light. Around the same time I got a computer and a web connection and I had the idea to look for throwing knives or "wurfmesser" on the Internet. BINGO! What a world! Of course I wanted to try something different than my first knives so I bought a B”ker - 10 inch "Linder Flying Dart". Not very expensive. I became used to them for short range throws and only threw them for a few months. Once more I felt like trying other kinds of knives so I bought another knife by B”ker, the five "extra schwer model". But I was very disappointed. These throwing knives don't suit my own style. I was not able to throw or stick them well. I was disappointed because I spent money for nothing and I do not throw them any more. So I bought a model that I find verry beautiful! Even though they rust. They look like "viper" throwing knives. With these I was rather happy from 12 feet. After a while I knew that I had to try something longer. I was fed up about spending money without being entirely satisfied. I decided to make some spikes using a piece of full d'inox (stainless steel) de 10 mm. I cut 5 pieces 40cm long. I made the handle out of this sort of hard plastic the butchers use to cut the meat on. Very easy to build, totally cheap and good sensations. After a while I decided to buy an "expensive" knife and I chose another by B”ker, the Night Dragon (30cm; 270g). Finally! A knife I feel totally well with. If I don't use too much power, it often goes straight on in the target. I feel very good at one and half turns and two and half. I know now what will be in my stocking at Christmas!
