1. WHAT'S NEW

Hello Everyone,

First off I want to congratulate the participants from the New Jersey WWAC/WKTG Tournament that took place July 19th and 20th in Netcong, New Jersey! We also have to "give a shout out" to Thomi Hawk and Joe Darrah for making it run so smoothly!

Damon Wilson of Virginia took a first place trophy, engraved knife, certificate and $60.00 in prize money. D. Draper came and took second place with a custom engraved knife, certificate and $30.00, and bringing up the rear in third place was Andrew - LB - Crocker who missed out because of a few bad throws, but still took an engraved knife, a certificate and $20.00 home with him!

So anyways, since Damon Wilson had such a good time in Jersey, (and also because he has sent me a TON of great pictures and info the past couple years :-) we are going to dedicate this issue to him! That means pretty much everything talked about in this issue was sent in by Damon!

To find out more just keep on reading! :-)

SITE UPDATES

CUSTOM DESIGNS
Damon has designed quite a few throwers in the past for his personal collection and he recently came up with another one. This time he had custom knife maker, and tournament thrower, Joe Darrah, turn his design into a throwable piece of steel!

You can see pictures of this knife here:

2. GUEST COLUMN:

WHERE CAN I KEEP ALL OF MY KNIVES?
From Damon Wilson

My throwing knife collection has out grown the small wooden case I have been keeping them in, therefore I need to get a new container. Are there any suggestions on good containers to store throwing knives in?

Thanks!

Damon

A FEW IDEAS FOR STORING KNIVES
by Rick Lemberg

Hello Damon,

I went through the same thing, and have seen several neat solutions, depending on price and space.

1) A solid tool case with fabric or felt lining installed in the drawers or compartments can hold dozens of knives and provide easy access & portability.

2) A (hard to find) map cabinet with the deep and wide (but shallow) drawers is an excellent storage/display for a large knife collection.

3) A 5-6 shelf glass & wood curio works very well and will hold 50-100 knives.

4) John Bailey provides a tour of his huge collection of mounted knives in his Recreational Knife Throwing Video, Part II. All wall mounted and they look nice.

5) Bobby Branton has a very impressive display of knives in his workshop that includes wall mounts and many store-type covered glass displays. More like a museum than a private collection!

If your collection is growing consistently, it is best to search out a solution that has room for twice as many knives as you currently display... That way you have room for the growth of your collection and don't end up facing the same issue in a year or two.
