Recreational Knife Throwing Video - by John Bailey 4. Advertising Opportunities 5. Contact Info/Reprint Guidelines 6. Subscribe and Unsubscribe Information ======================================= 1. WHAT'S NEW Hello again everyone! I have some fantastic news to share about The Great Throwzini Newsletter. You will now be receiving a new issue every week, instead of every 2-3 weeks. There will be just a bit less content in each issue but nothing else will change. Each newsletter will still be filled with great tips to help improve your throwing and all the information you'll need to keep up on the latest happenings in our sport. When this newsletter started (65 issues ago), it was difficult to come up with enough good information to share to send out an issue every 2-3 weeks. Our sport has gained quite a bit of momentum in the past 2 years and now I have so much info coming in I can't share it fast enough, so I decided to increase the number of issues per month. Anyway, thanks to everyone for their info, comments, questions, articles, stories, pictures and whatever else you've shared over the years! You keep this newsletter alive so please keep 'em coming! COLD STEEL FRONTIER HAWK In the last issue I said we had just picked up a new tomahawk made by the American Tomahawk Company, but I was "misinformed" (aka I screwed up), the new tomahawks that we just started carrying are made by the folks at Cold Steel. They are called Frontier Hawks and they are "flying" off the shelves! Sorry I couldn't pass it up :-) I've gotten quite a few e mails from throwers who have ordered the Frontier Hawk and just wanted to share how great it throws. One fellow from TN was bragging about sticking it on the first throw from the 1, 2, and 3 spin distances! I also received a message from Cynthia Phillips who had some great things to say about it. Check them out below: -------------------------------------------------------- To "Mr. Throwzini", "I will attest to the virtues of the Frontier Hawk. After doing online research and finding an article on what to look for in a throwing axe, I finally found the Frontier Hawk. It fit the requirements for a good throwing axe and also met the requirements for a SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) throwing axe. At our last meeting a whole bunch of people borrowed my Frontier Hawk and did well with it. IT became the favorite one for everyone to borrow!" Cynthia Phillips Oregon -------------------------------------------------------- And for a limited time the Frontier Hawk is only $29.95! To see some pics and find out all the details about the Cold Steel Frontier Hawk just follow this link: http://www.throwzini.com/frontier_hawks.html AOL USERS LINK UPCOMING EVENT Don't miss the Central US Knife Championships event in Austin, TX this Friday, Saturday and Sunday! GUEST COLUMN: A KNIFE THROWING DEMO by Chuck Fogarty I gave a knife throwing demo to 10 people a while back. It was great fun and we all enjoyed it. My host in Stuart, Florida had a couple of other house guests for a few days and some neighbors that we play tennis with also wanted to see. My target is on the beach on some steps leading to my hosts pier. I have learned one thing in my 5+ years of throwing and that is to stick to what you know you can do well. I started off throwing a 1/2 turn at 8 feet. I threw my 6 Cold Steel throwers, 2 torpedoes and 5 throwing stars. I did this routine again to get good and warmed up and then moved back to 12 feet. I threw the 6 knives and 5 stars here a couple of times and then backed up to 14 feet for my hawks and torpedoes. The torpedoes are such awesome throwers and I always make sure I allow people to hold them. The 2 pounds feels like 10 in your hand. They throw a 1/2 turn at 8 feet and one full turn at 14 feet so I often throw them with the hawks from the 14 foot distance. The torpedoes are controlled well by sliding your grip up or down just as you do for a knife to change the speed of rotation. I intended to stop there but of course they wanted some longer throws. I went to 18 feet for 1 1/2 turns and stuck most of them. (I had a good excuse there because I had to stand on a couple of large rocks for that throw.) I threw 3 hawks at 1 1/2 turns sticking 2 of them which is twice my usual percentage! They wanted some even longer throws but I knew I had thrown a little better than usual so I left it at that and worked my way back to 14, 12 and then 8 feet. I did pay a price though because making a lot of throws really tires me out and if I play tennis the same day my legs feel a little leaden and my coordination is off. I lose my ability to serve and make lots of errors so I lost all 3 sets of doubles. But then I've had that happen even when I don't throw before playing :-) Article Contributed by: Chuck Fogarty - The Traveling Knife Throwing Reporter Countryside, IL koato29@hotmail.com ============================================= 3.
