1. WHAT'S NEW

Hi everybody!

There's a few new pics on the site that I want to mention. A couple of new OUTDOOR TARGET ideas, and also another addition to the COLLECTIONS link.

I had an idea a while ago about building a portable target stand. Something that would hold all different sizes of log rounds and that would be easy to move if I wanted to.

I supplied the idea and my buddy Pete came back a week later towing a trailer with the "perfect stand" on the back of it! Trust me, when it comes to target stands, this one is "the cat's meow"!!!

If you want to see a couple of pics just go to the TARGET section and click on OUTDOOR TARGETS. Then click on the first one listed called MY OUTDOOR TARGET.

There is also another new pic under the OUTDOOR TARGET section called FRANK'S OUTDOOR TARGETS. Be sure to check that one out to if you want to get another idea for setting up log rounds!

http://www.throwzini.com/targets.html

NEW PIC IN "COLLECTIONS"
David Adamovich, Founder of the WFKT, was kind enough to send me a pic of some of his favorite throwers.

Check them out by following this link and then clicking on "THROWDINI'S COLLECTION":

NEW KOCH THROWERS NOW AVAILABLE
We have a new throwing knife listed in the THROWZINI STORE called the DIAMOND HEAD! It is the first of 2 new designs from Jeff Koch. (I mentioned both of these knives in our last issue).

For more details or for ordering info, just visit:

http://www.throwzini.com/jkoch_diamond.html

There will be another new design added next week. This one will be a blade thrower designed for throwing 1/2 spins, 1-1/2 spins, 2-1/2, 3-1/2... (get the idea? :)

Well, that's about it for now... Time to get outside and throw some knives :)

Hope everybody has a great 2 weeks!

Until next time...

2. GUEST COLUMN:

WWAC INTERVIEW #1: THOMI HAWK
by John Bailey

This interview was taken at the Wild West Arts Club annual Las Vegas convention 2001. Thomi Hawk is a long-standing member and avid tomahawk thrower.

This year he sponsored and ran the tomahawk event. He also participated in most of the knife throwing events, sponsored by Pacific Knife Throwers (PKT) run by Rick Lemberg. I found Thomi to be an outstanding individual and feel honored to know him!

Interview Thomi Hawk by John Bailey

JB: "I'm here interviewing a very interesting individual. Give me your full name".

TH: "Thomi Hawk".

JB: "How did you come up with Thomi Hawk"?

TH: "My Mom is American Indian and my Dad Irish and I just decided that that was a great name to take on because that was my skill, my favorite skill of all times so I just adopted that".

JB: "Have you ever had a mentor or someone that actually got you started in knife throwing"?

TH: "I guess really Ed Ames, watching the old Daniel Boone shows and the Johnny Carson outtake".

JB: "How long have you been doing the stage show"?

TH: "The big stage show acts basically started off with the "Frontier Riders Co." about four years ago. But I actually started smaller shows a couple years prior to that.

I started performing when I was 13 as an actor throwing tomahawks; I won about every award I could win and one day I just had to stop.

After doing the rendezvous and the reenactments for so long, after awhile I didn't want to throw anymore. It got to the point, every time I would be sitting around the campfire with the guys, someone would start passing the jug around; then sooner or later (like from an old B-western,) some new stud full of himself and liquor, would say,

"Hey I got to throw against you".

For ten years I had to hang it up because I just hated it.

JB: You throw tomahawks mostly don't you? Or do you have any other routine?

TH: "Primarily I was a tomahawk thrower. I just started learning how to throw knives about four years ago. I don't consider myself a knife thrower.

I can't stand up with the big boys, like yourself, Lee and Che Che, Rick Lemberg and Dave Smith. You guys are pretty outrageous".

JB: "Ya we do get a little out of hand. You have some other skills though. You put on a good show, a real showman. What do you use to fill your act up with"?

TH: "I also do trick shooting. I shoot a rifle from just about any position, standing on my head, backwards, bridge shots, shooting underneath the rifle, I shoot over my shoulder with a mirror, like Annie Oakley use to do. I also do bull whipping, I do target whips, I enjoy that. I also do fast draw".

JB: "How long does your show last? Do you do short shows for events or do you have long stage shows"?

TH: "Basically, I work for the Frontier Riders, I'm very proud of them and I am very proud to be a member of them. They are a very select production group.

The big thing is that we tailor make our shows to what a client needs. Yes, I have done shows by myself and I can put on an hour show, having fun with hecklers, funny talk and the four different skills that I have".

JB: "Do you have any film credits or anything on TV"?

TH: "Yes, some years back I made a couple historic movies. One was a documentary called The Battle of White Plains. It was made about the American Revolution.

I also did another movie called the Other Side of Victory with David Knotten also about the American Revolution. It also had William Sanderson in, "Hi I'm Larry this is my brother Darrell and my other brother Darrell", that is William Sanderson.

David Knotten used to do the Dr. Pepper commercial, "I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper", he did American Werewolf in London. Ya, I worked with them. I had done some advising for different stuff, I have done a lot of historical work, some consulting for The Learning Channel... stuff like that".

JB: "It sounds like you have had a real interesting career and I just wanted to make sure our people hear about it.

TH: "John, I appreciate you interviewing me. Actually, the interview is a pretty big honor to me.

Thank you very much!"

JB: "It's an honor and pleasure".

4. WELCOME TO THE 3RD ANNUAL "HURLATHON"
(aka the "West Coast Master's Open")
by Lee Fugatt

This year's West Coast Master's Tourney (Formerly known as the performer formerly known as Prince, or the "HURLATHON") will be held the 16, 17 and 18 of June!
For those of you who are not regulars, I live in a beautiful area just south of Shasta Lake recreation Area in Northern California.

I am happy to be inviting all of our throwing friends to camp out, eat great BBQ, and incidently compete in an AKTA sanctioned and PKT supported KNIFE THROWING CONTEST, HAWK THROWING CONTEST and SPEAR THROWING CONTEST!!!

Free camping on my 6 acre back yard is great! ***There are also some good inexpensive motels 25 minutes or so away for city folks. (Chuck has dibs on my porch :)

This year there is a $10.00 entrance fee cuz I want to have nice trophies to go with the custom throwers I make special for this event.

PRIZES
First prize for the knife throwing event will be a nice trophy plus a custom inscribed "WAHOS'I" throwing knife! Trust me, these things are getting popular.

The first prize for the hawk event will be a nice trophy, and of course, a custom hawk the likes of which you have never seen!

The spear throwing champ will go home with Fugatt "WAMBLI", a handmade throwing spear that would not look out of place in a museum.

(2nd and 3rd Place Trophies will be awarded as well.)

We will also be doing a walk/throw on my training course. We'll be holding workshops on everything from knife throwing to bola and sling making.

Rick Lemberg, President of the PKT, and Matt Rapaport, the host of the THROWER Page, will be here!

So bring your knives, hawks, boomerangs, spears bolos, atlatls, darts and any other "Throwing Thingie" you have and come have a great time!

The camping is free but be sure to bring something for the BBQ on Saturday night. This fat, one-eye'd Injun knows how to cook boys & girls ;)

THINGS TO BRING
Sun screen, camp stove if you have one 'cuz we can't have open fires, a flashlight or lantern, and good thick-soled shoes.

THINGS NOT TO BRING
Firearms, large vicious dogs, uncontrolled children, a bad attitude, or monkeys, (cuz I hate monkeys).
