GUEST COLUMN STABILIZING A THROWER by Joe Aimetti Many moons ago I had a fun experience with steel cooking skewers. I was using then as small throwing spikes and they had a hole at the back end. I remembered reading a book of tricks that said if you thread a needle with some thread through the eye; and leave 6 to 12 inches hanging from it, you can throw it like a dart and it will stick. The thread acts as a stabilizer like feathers on an arrow. I decided to try it with the steel dart and put some strong nylon string in the eye, however I did not have knife to cut the string, so I knotted it and left it connected to the rest of the string. I threw it at my foam target, and it stuck! It kept sticking, and what's more, I just gave the string a tug, and I could retrieve the dart. I set up the target in my living room and I could throw the darts 15 feet across the room from my easy chair and retrieve them... The ultimate lazy mans dart game! The rope dart sounds like another variation. Just proves that there are very few things new under the sun. Take care and watch how hard you pull when you retrieve the dart, take it from the voice of experience! (Can you say Boomerang??) Ouch! Article Contributed by: Joe Aimetti For more info about the 'rope dart' that Joe mentioned above, go to our ARTICLES section and look for the title MY STRING DRIVEN THING. Those of you that have seen or 'played' with a rope dart before will appreciate this one! http://www.throwzini.com/articles.html AOL USERS LINK ============================================= 3.
