Georgia Throwers Association

GTA SPRING FLING 2002

When & Where:
May 4th, 2002 at the North Georgia Traditional Shooters Club in Gainesville, GA. (See directions below)

Once again we are happy to announce the 2002 Spring Fling. This year the event will be held in cooperation with the North Georgia Traditional Shooters Association. Knife and Hawk throwing will be the main events but we will also have an archery range set up for those that feel the urge to send a few well placed arrows downrange.

There will also be professional Bowyers on hand to instruct those interested in the art of bow making.

Those that attended last year had a great time, and we are looking forward to an even larger gathering this year. Frank will be barbecuing a bunch of deer and hawg meat from last year's road kills and the rest of us will chip in with assorted edibles.

We will be raffling off a custom Throwing Knife!

Get off on exit 20 and take a right onto Hwy 60, traveling east. 2.1 miles down Hwy 60 you will see Leland Rd. on the right (just after an industrial yard with a chain link fence). Take a right on Leland and travel 1.3 miles until you get to a fork in the road. Bear left at the fork in the road onto Web Girth Rd. Travel a quarter of a mile down Web Girth Rd until you see the NGT sign next to a gravel road on the left. There will be plenty of cars parked in the lot and on the road.

COMPETITION RULES:
There will be little more at stake at this competition than a Throwing Knife/Hawk and a little bit of ego. The rules will be simple:

Knife Competition:
There will be a total of 30 throws
- 15 from 1 spin distance (knife must turn one full spin before hitting the target)

- 15 from 2 spin distance (knife must turn two full spins before hitting the target)

The minimum distances for 1 and 2 spins will be as follows:

- 1 Spin: 10 feet
- 2 Spins: 16 feet

Competitors will use the Open Practice time to establish their individual distance marks.

Competitors will throw three knives per turn. Competitors can throw three knives at once or retrieve their knife after each throw.

Competitors will complete 15 throws at the 1 spin distance before attempting 15 throws at the 2 spin distance.

The total score from all 30 throws will be used to determine the winner.

A tie score for 1st place will be broken with a 1 round throw off of three knives per competitor. A coin flip will determine whether the distance is 1 or two spins.

Hawk Competition:
There will be a total of 10 throws. All throws will be taken from the 1 spin distance for a hawk (12 feet minimum).

Competitors will use the Open Practice time to establish their individual distance marks.

Each competitor will take ten turns, throwing one hawk per turn.

A tie score for first place will be broken with a 1 round throw off of 1 hawk per competitor.

SCORING:
The Scoring for the Competitions will be as follows:

Knife:
a. There will be five playing cards stapled to the target (a tree round)
b. A competitor can only throw one knife at each card and be given credit for a score.
