Subscribe and Unsubscribe Information ======================================= 1. WHAT'S NEW Hello Peoples! I had a great time at RIB's Archery/Knife/Hawk Throwing event. It was a near perfect weekend! The first day was a bit slower than last year but the second day it was really busy! If some great people from Illinois didn't make the trip up I wouldn't have gotten a break all day! Chuck Fogarty made the trip up and spent the weekend at the event helping me with EVERYTHING. Paul Elliott and Mike Wood also came out and helped keep things running smoothly. Answering questions, giving lessons, crowd control... they were on top of everything :-) Thanks much for the help guys! We have QUITE a few pictures and some more details from the event from Chuck Fogarty. Just keep on reading to the GUEST COLUMN and you'll get to read Chucks thoughts. UPCOMING EVENT We would like to remind all knife enthusiasts to attend the event in Austin, TX on the 11th, 12th and 13th of October, 2003. The 11th is the induction ceremony for the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame and the 12th and 13th are going to be the days of the competition! Knives, hawks and spears will be thrown and its going to be a part of knife throwing history taking place! Be sure to check out all of the information and do your best to make it to this 3 day event! I'm tellin' ya, if you only go to one event in your life... THIS is the one to check out! GUEST COLUMN: LOTSA KNIVES, LOTSA THROWERS (RIB EVENT) by Chuck Fogarty Do you want to throw hawks or knives? Move up a foot -- Don't throw quite so hard -- Try not to use your wrist -- Move back about 6 inches -- lean into it -- don't move we found your spot -- slide up on the handle a little -- good, throw the next ones just like that -- Bullseye! Here's a ticket for a free drink... Sound familiar? Have you said those words a few times? Those words and many others in a similar vein were ringing out in Racine Wisconsin over the weekend. Scott Gracia said them most of the time but occasionally some of us got him to take a break and let us help a bit. RIB (Racine Instinctive Bowmen) was the site. A beautiful 200 acre 50 year old site devoted solely to archery. For the 3rd year Scott had a knife throwing booth open and attracted scores of new and some not so new throwers to the booth. This was my 1st time with Scott and what an enjoyable experience it was. There were enough of us regular throwers there to keep the knives thunking into the wood and occasionally we would miss on purpose??? to make a clanging noise so it would attract attention :-) Young and old, male and female they came to throw, and most came back for another turn or two. Quite a few came back again and again they enjoyed it so much. Scott has become a wonderful teacher, knowledgeable and patient. It was a high energy time for Scott because he wouldn't let you move and retrieved every knife and handed it back to you. I spent all day Saturday and stayed til late Sunday afternoon until my body told me it was time to go. I brought my atlatl and about a dozen of the regular throwers took a try at it and EVERYONE enjoyed it! It's always a hit with knife throwers and some of the archers were very interested too. (See pictures on web site!) Paul Elliott eclipsed my distance in throwing the atlatl by about his 6th throw. He's a good knife thrower and I've never seen a more natural athlete. I'd like to say I'm looking forward to next year but we're moving to Colorado in the next few months and that's probably a wee bit too far away. Anyway, it was a fun weekend to say the least!
