1. WHAT'S NEW

Hello Everyone,

Its that time of year again!!! :-)

ARCHERY, KNIFE & HAWK THROWING EVENT
Next weekend (August 16th and 17th) there will be the Annual Anniversary Shoot at RIB (Racine Instinctive Bowmen). This is the archery club where I have set up a throwing booth for the past couple years in Racine, WI.

I taught around 70 people to throw last year and it was a great weekend!!! If any one out there is interested in checking it out this year just drop me an email and I'll send you all the details!

Its free to get in and they charge you around $3 to shoot your bow on each range. They also have a bar on site, with a kitchen, so there will be plenty of food and drinks if you need any. (And there's free camping too!)

Here are some pics and info from last years event. There are also directions listed at the bottom of the page:

I can't even explain how great this is going to be so if you can make it, please do. I guarantee a good time will be had by all! (Its a weekend full of throwing... how could it not be fun?)

I have also heard from a few throwers in other states that will be making the trip. Who knows, we might even get to have a contest or two! :-)

Hope to see you there!

INTERNATIONAL KNIFE THROWERS HALL OF FAME
The International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame ranking system has been established. Knife throwers wishing to be ranked by the IKTHOF association must first be a member of the Association, (membership forms are provided at the IKTHOF web site or by requesting a membership form from the IKTHOF headquarters).

This new ranking system is in its infancy right now and the web site is being updated pretty regularly but you should definitely check this out to see whats in store for us! (Its gonna be so cool! :-)

This International ranking system will help give throwing the credibility it needs to start having the media take notice of us and make this a popular spectator sport!

I'll have lots more info about this in our next issue but I wanted to share this with everyone as soon as I could. So if you want to find out more about how the ranking system is set up, and how many points you need to be ranked as a "Marksman" or a "Distinguished Expert", just follow this link:

2. GUEST COLUMN:

RESULTS FROM THE CHUCKER 2003!
by Carl Geddes

Well the Chucker 2003 held on July 26, 2003 is officially over for another year. The weather was fairly usual for San Diego. We had rain, muggy heat and the fog started to roll in for the folks who came from the beach. Fortunately, we had tarps installed to protect the throwers and the spectators from the elements. We had 15 registered throwers and about that many spectators.

Registration and practice started at 9:00am. We held our safety and rules meeting at 9:50am and competition started at 10:00am. The targets were 22" palm rounds provided by Micah Posada. If you have never thrown into palm you don't know what you are missing! It's like throwing into a "boar's bristle" dart board.

When I painted the targets this year I thought I would do something a little different so I painted the bullseye's off-center. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the change.

The Chucker 2003 consists of knives at 8' and 12' and "ninja weapons" at 8' and 12'. We threw 28 weapons at each distance for a total of 112 throws. The leader at the end of 112 throws was declared the Knife Chucker, Chucker 2003 winner.

To check out the results and to see some great photos from the event just visit the following page:

The spear-throwing event was GREAT we had a three way tie for first place between Daniel Clark, Micah Posada, and Mike Bracken. And in the throw-off the winner was...

(You'll have to check the web page mentioned above :-)

This year we also presented the Harold Baker Memorial Trophy to a person who most exemplified the traits and high moral character of Harold Baker. (Harold died of a massive heart attack in December 2002.)

Harold was also the guy who won the Chucker two years in a row - without practice! This year's winner of the Harold Baker Memorial Trophy was Micah Posada. When you meet Micah you will see why he won. Micah is one of the most likeable people you will ever meet. Like Harold, Micah is a very special person who understands what responsibility and honor mean to a man.

Lunch and drinks were provided to all the attendees. After the event we had the awards presentations and a raffle. All the participants won two raffle prizes each. Daniel Clark even presented "yours truly" with a license plate frame that says "SD Chuckers, Keep on Chuckin". (Check out the picture on the web page :-)

We've created a great group of throwers here in San Diego, CA. We are known as the San Diego Chuckers. Our inspiration and all round nice guy is Chuck Fogarty. Other members include myself, Micah Posada and Daniel Clark. As more and more people come to join us for our throwing sessions there will be more "San Diego Chuckers" to add to the ranks of recreational knife throwers!

I'd like to thank everyone who helped make this the best Chucker ever; Micah Posada, Daniel Clark, Todd Abrams, James McKinley, Jane Fogarty and my lovely wife, Marilyn. Thank you all, I could not have done it without your help!
