WILD WEST ARTS CLUB "WILL ROGERS EXPO AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WESTERN ARTS"

The Wild West Arts Club is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Western Arena Arts & has a dynamic membership of over 700 people from 10 countries around the world. Trick Roping, Whip Cracking, Gun Spinning, Trick Riding, Fast Draw, Knife and Tomahawk Throwing - those and many other heritage arts of the historic American West are being kept alive and given added vitality by the Wild West Arts Club.

This event will take place on April 14-17, 2005 in Claremore, Oklahoma. (Prize money totals over $3000 this year.)

This will be quite an event for all knife throwing enthusiasts! While in Netcong, NJ, earlier this year at another WWAC event, I was told by Che Che WhiteCloud that he would be performing his knife throwing routine in Oklahoma!

For those of you who aren't familiar with Mr. WhiteCloud, he is one of the most famous Impalement Artists that has ever lived! Che Che started throwing publicly at the age of 5, and he came from a long line of performers. His family has been performing/throwing for over 2 centuries! Che Che himself has been performing for over 55 years, and his father, Chief White Cloud, was the Chief of the Seneca Indians in Salamanca NY.

This will be one performance nobody should miss! If you want to have the experience of a lifetime, go check out this event. The people you will meet, and the things you will see, will 'stick' in your brain forever! :-)

THE PATH OF AN INTEREST IS USUALLY STARTED AND SHARED WITH A FRIEND - by Tim Hosking

A story to enjoy in the cold while I battle the heat here in Botswana and remember past "New years":

Usually the path of an interest is started and shared with a friend. I was introduced to throwing knives by my GP (general practitioner) when we met at an international shoot where we were both officiating in various roles.

Lunch time came around and out came my Glock field knife to cut up food on the barbeque. After a quick discussion lunch was soon delegated. We located a large tree near the first aid tent and proceeded to rock and roll. I learned a lot and became the first statistic for his first aid tent. This created both a lasting friendship and a lasting irritation to my wife.

At the end of the same year I came to meet and become strong friends with another guy by the way of introducing him to amateur knife throwing. My wife and her friends had organized a trip to the mountains in an exquisite lodge that was larger than most people's houses. This trip was something she rued for some time afterwards.

Two couples, two single women, two divorcees and four kids were neither the best nor brightest of mixes. The two lovely and very wealthy divorcees were very much on the hunt with very few scruples. This was enjoyed extensively by us happily married guys as it kept our wives on their toes and we were for some reason sent out on errands together.

The lodge was sparse in decent cutlery so out from under my driving seat was dragged a roll of my favorite knives. At one breakfast the discussion between husbands turned from 'how we wrecked our backs' to the Glock knife and possible throwing entertainment.

So on the last day of the year the bachelor took the kids fishing, we went hunting trees and the women could finally relax. A whole day throwing was a bit much for our backs, something irrelevant until that evening.

The New year came in with the ladies, the bachelor and the kids enjoying a late trout dinner, a game of cards and my best port whilst my new found friend and I shared an attic, a bottle of pain killers and a roll of elastoplast. There was a new good will all amongst the ladies as one thing worse for them than competition is a guy with a bad back and an unhealthy interest in toys.

The friendship and interest has persevered although we have eased up and use throwing stars. We are now further apart, separated by the Zimbabwean crisis. We get better at throwing but our wives still don't seem to see the humor of a ricochet star in a shin and the chorus of yelps and giggles.

PS. I am surprised to see that you have no sponsorship from Band-Aid :-)
