1. What's New

Hi Throwers,

The weather is great, I'm great, and my knife throwing is slowly being worked on :-))) Still a bit of raining and flooding going on here but I've been able to get out about 5 times this year to practice :-)

This is our 100th Issue of the newsletter! I was thinking about this the other night and couldn't believe how many stories, events, games, tips etc have been covered. There's so much info available on the site its pretty amazing to me! So let me give a HUGE thanks to all the subscribers out there that contributed info, pics or even ideas for the site and newsletter! Without all of your help we would be reading a very short issue every 2 weeks, and it would probably be a pretty boring one too, so THANKS!

UPCOMING EVENTS

2nd ANNUAL MOOSE TRAX OPEN THROW EVENT
The Moose Trax Open Throw will be held on July the 17th, 2004 in Brighton, Maine. There are 4 events: The "Range Throw", "The Woods Walk", "The Combat Course", and the "Anything Goes Down Range Event!". From what I've heard this puts even the best throwers out there on their toes.

For more details about this event and other upcoming events, just go to the CLUBS/EVENTS page and scroll down to the UPCOMING THROWING EVENTS section.

MIKE BAINTON'S TRAVELING TARGET
by Joe Darrah

"From what I understand Mike made another target that was recently declassified and pictures of it were posted. Rumor has it certain people have asked him to come to area 51 and Roswell to work on another target project which has been alluded to using some sort of alien technology!"

"We will keep the photos coming as long as the government will let them through, but after the next target is done I understand Mike will be able to get from The Chucker Tournament in San Diego to the Moose Trax Tournament in Maine in 1.2 hours!"

Knife Maker and Throwing Champion

That's all for now. Have fun throwing and be safe!

HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?
By Ed Imperatore

I was going through your site again and thought I might send you the game I play to keep me practicing when I'm alone, which is usually the case.

I start at the 1/2 spin mark and throw 5 knives into 5 targets. Targets are normal rounds. 18" ring, 6" ring, and 2 1/2" or 3" bulls eye. Targets are in same pattern as a 5 side on a pair of dice. With less than 5 knives or only 1 round, just keep retrieving the knife as needed.

What you are counting is knives thrown, not points. The object is to throw all 5 in a row into ONLY the 6" ring or bulls eye. If you do this on first try you score a total of 5. If 1 or more knives fall or lands outside of the 6" circle you must throw 5 more, until all 5 go into the 6" ring. Then move back to the 1 spin, then 1 1/2 spins, then 2 spins, and finally 2 1/2 spins. Count the number of knives on each level and with a total of 5 distances and 5 knives in each a lowest possible score is 25.

Lowest score wins of course since he/she threw the fewest knives. As each person finishes a distance he moves back to next distance and others stay where they are until they do it. You only throw 5 knives, then it's the next persons turn. If you think you're a badass thrower just use only the bulls eye, but it might be an eternal game hehehe.

I find this really makes me work on keeping all my throws into or at least closer to the 2 point mark. It's a good way to dial-in your aim and make the best use of limited practice time.
