RESULTS Well the Chucker 2003 held on July 26, 2003 is officially over for another year. The weather was fairly unusual for San Diego. We had rain, muggy heat and the fog started to roll in for the folks who came from the beach. Fortunately, we had tarps installed to protect the throwers and the spectators from the elements. We had 15 registered throwers and about that many spectators. Registration and practice started at 9:00 am. We held our safety and rules meeting at 9:50am and competition started at 10:00am. The targets were 22" palm rounds provided by Micah Posada. If you've never thrown into palm you don't know what you are missing. It's like throwing into a "boar's bristle" dart board! When I painted the targets this year I thought I would do something a little different so I painted the bullseye's off-center. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the change. The Chucker 2003 consists of knives at 8' and 12' and "ninja weapons" at 8' and 12'. We threw 28 weapons at each distance for a total of 112 throws. The leader at the end of 112 throws was declared the Knife Chucker, Chucker 2003 winner. The results were as follows: 1st place - Daniel Clark - 224 - Trophy 2nd place - Micah Posada - 211 - Trophy 3rd place - Chuck Fogarty - 198 - Trophy 4th place - Todd Abrams - 185 5th place a tie, Ron Horvitz and Ben Horvitz - 177 (a father/son tie) 6th place - Mike Bracken - 175 7th place - David Moffitt - 169 8th place - Tim Knaplund - 152 9th place - Hunter Moffitt - 149 10th place - Andrew Woodfine - 141 11th place - Andre Caminite - 97 12th place a three-way tie, with James "Mad Dog" McKinley, CD Morse, and Fred Caminite. The spear-throwing event was GREAT! We had a three way tie for first place between Daniel Clark, Micah Posada, and Mike Bracken. And in the throw-off the winner was. . . Daniel Clark! Daniel had a great day. His throwing was flawless. He's a good champion for Chucker 2003! This year we also presented the Harold Baker Memorial Trophy to a person who most exemplified the traits and high moral character of Harold Baker. Harold died of massive heart attack in December 2002. Harold was also the guy who won the Chucker two years in a row - without practice! This year's winner of the Harold Baker Memorial Trophy was Micah Posada. When you meet Micah you will see why he won. Micah is one of the most likeable people you will ever meet. Like Harold, Micah is a very special man who understands what responsibility and honor mean to a man. We've created a great group of throwers here in San Diego. We are known as the San Diego Chuckers. Our inspiration and all round nice guy is Chuck Fogarty. Other members include myself, Micah Posada and Daniel Clark. As more and more people come to join us for our throwing sessions there will be more San Diego Chuckers to add to the ranks of recreational knife throwers. I'd like to thank everyone who helped make this the best Chucker ever; Micah Posada, Daniel Clark, Todd Abrams, James McKinley, Jane Fogarty and my lovely wife, Marilyn. Thank you all, I could not have done it without your help. Life Is Good!
